Concentration is Key

When it comes to concentrating on school work, the answer is key with four simple steps. It seems that it should be easy and come naturally, but for some it is a little more difficult. When juggling work, school and family life among everything else, I have found it easy to stay focused with these easy steps.
First thing to do is get organized. I set up all of the school work and supplies I need at one time in an area that is quiet and secluded. This helps to take the edge off of things before I get started. It also helps me to be focused on the task at hand.
Secondly, I try to eliminate possible distractions. While doing school or homework at home I try to create an environment that helps me to concentrate better. For example, I let the dog in the backyard, send the children to go play in their rooms, turn down the ringer on the telephone, set my cell phone to vibrate or just go to the library or other location where distractions are very limited. This usually works out great and those around me understand that I need this time alone and how important it is for me.

Next, I make sure any radios are turned off and any televisions (if on), are turned down to low volume setting. Sometimes it helps me to relax better just to have the television on with no volume. This step may or may not be necessary or helpful, but it can help.

Finally, I sit down in a nice comfortable place, like a cushioned chair or couch with a delicious beverage at arms length and maybe a light snack to avoid having to get up as often. Trying not to indulge in too much to eat or drink because then I will be interrupted by frequent restroom visits instead. I am now ready and focused for the accomplishments ahead.
I imagine that everyone has their own ways of being able to concentrate when it comes to school work or homework. If not, I have found it quite helpful to me in my situation to use these steps to better my concentration levels. It did not happen for me overnight, it has taken years to perfect what works good for me, and I know at least some of these steps, if not all of them would be very helpful to anyone who follows them.
